The Dance

The Dance Checking once more, patting down the rebel lock of hair that has a mind of its own she nods and heads out. Walking quickly to her destination lest she turn back as she keeps hoping she will one day.She pulls open the door. Stepping into the darkness her senses reel from the acrid pungent aromas that sadly she has grown accustomed to. Those that cling to her body and clothes ..those that she scrubs off in distaste...later..later. Eyes focusing now and she exhales and heads to her locker..touching gingerly her coat willing it to take her elsewhere..anywhere from here. Grabbing her bottle of water she heads back out ..into the seedy atmosphere and paints a smile on her face. Nodding her hellos to co-workers she takes her place and waits silently. Lights dim and her eyes close in time with it. The first mournful strains of a melody begin and enter her..filling her with he courage to do what she came for..the dance. As the bass raises in pitch so do her eyes and another part of her awakens..one that knows the routine..the movements that will bring her ever closer to the dawn and home. Strutting out amid the dark stares her body moves slowly at first reaching out..feeling the caresses of the blank eyes that lay upon flesh and rhinestone imagery..imagery that she created from the desires of those nameless entities that come to her. Taking hold of the cool metal she gasps silently as she curls fingers around it..stroking it gently...hello old friend. Hips jut out to be part of the greeting and withdraw shyly but awakened. Painted lips pout and glisten like a freshly split plum in the cascade of colored lights and haze of exhaled smoke. Fingers chase the chill from flesh and chase each other around her body. Touching spots that know will bring a luring grin..a smirk and a rise from lil snakes around the room. They know all too well what is expected and they do not disappoint. Making love to the air between her and them ..to them all...an imaginary lover they all become..each one thinking that they are the ones that incite her arousal ..create the<b> dampness </font></b>between her thighs and all believe they will be the one chosen to drink of the sweet nectar that lust created for them and her. Reaching fever pitches..droplets of sweat trickle down against her softly heaving breasts and make their way to nether regions..causing a shiver..an added bonus for the onlookers..a nice touch some say ..a welcome glance that the body and image is real ..breathing..alive. Body writhing to the lilting throbbing sounds, while in her head classical piano melodies echo off her memories and do not judge her location or ask why..they still her fears and allow her a calm fighting off the demons that ebb closer upon her made up smile. With the final crescendo she lays panting softly feeling the chill of blank faceless stares devouring her with their gaze. Sitting up she gathers the paper and crumpled tightly in her hands she nods and smiles a lil ,,then walks back into the darkness. Back to the safety that anonymous shadows deliver her from the rest..from herself. Keeping her eyes lowered not to see the reflection of what she has become she hurries back into the pre-dawn hours ..escaping back to the silence..the endearing silence which embraces the lost, the quiet, the refugees of life. A final click of a deadbolt ..leaning against wooden stillness then and only then she takes a breath ..and a soft whimper escapes her lips as she slides to the floor releasing the night from her mind and welcoming the stillness once again.  |
