40Deuce - Buying your love with counterfeit gold since 2001 The other day someone said that my blog was "just about TV shows you watch" . "Thank you" I replied graciously , "thanks for noticing" I remarked boobily . "It wasn't a compliment" they snarked snarkily . What is a snark anyway ? I know its a mythical creature of some kind . That seems like the kind of thing I would know .  There's an Australian crime drama I like a lot called Underbelly and the chick who was in the first series and narrates all the other ones I thought I saw on an American show so I checked her out on IMDB . Turns out it wasn't her , but I stumbled upon something far more interesting . She was in another Australia crime show called Blue Heelers for three seasons . . . . and appeared in 106 episodes ! Turns out this Blue Heelers show has 42 frickin' episodes a season . That that seems deranged these days where an "episode" of most non-formulaic TV shows is like 6 episodes . My mind was blown . The show was on for 13 seasons and had 510 flippin' episodes . And I bet there's people that have seen them all . All hail television ! Hail I says ! The TV is a media on the way out as we all know , the were days only care about the internet porn and sexting each other all day . Its weird to think about a world without TV . With apologies to my parents (they did as best they could) TV mostly raised me . Its sad to think mother TV will be gone soon . Will the world be a better place ? Probably not , but people will waste their precious , precious lives with something else . I have the same argument with a buddy of mine all the time about TV vs. Reading . I love them both , I do them both a lot . But they're neither "constructive" in any regards . There's just as many trashy worthless books that have nothing worthwhile to offer as their are TV shows . Unless you're out feeding the homeless or something you're just killing time , one way or the other . Anyway , where was I ? Oh right , the Watchmen . The Watchmen is a comic book (later a movie a lot of people hated but I thought was pretty good) that is widely regarded as one of the best comics ever . Some people even include is on lists of the best novels ever , which usually results in them being widely mocked and savagely beaten with bricks . However its regarded by others , it is one my favorite comics . Its basically a deconstruction of the entire comic book genre (at the time) and spawned a whole host of "gritty , realistic" comics for years afterwards (most of which sucked) . Even if you're not into comics you might like it (but probably not) . Artsy types also gush over it because its the first comic that used secondary colors as the base palette and therefore has a very distinctive look at the time (which I thought was ugly myself) . The main characters are Rorschach (who's a stand-in for the Punisher and "anti-hero" characters) the Night Owl (stand in for Batman and other non-powerful characters) and Dr. Manhattan (who stands in for Superman and other ultra-powerful characters) . But what I realized is that the only significant female character , Silk Specter , only exists to be a love interest for first Dr. Manhattan and then the Night Owl . Take that out and there's no reason for her even to be in the book . Seems strange for something so widely renowned (and liked by me) . Deadwood is the same way . I think its one of the best shows every made , but the two female characters of the most import - Alma and Trixie are pretty much defined only by their roles in their relationships with the male characters . It seems move often that not even in "good" storytelling women are generally just plot ballast with boobs . Please name 17 books , TV shows or whatever form of media you like with worthwhile female characters (and nude boobs) for me to review . Thanks in advance . I'm reading the 3 book in the game of thrones series right now and I just got to the part where Sansa and Tyrion to get married . It was WAY better than the way they did it on the TV show . Here's how it went down in the book . Cersei (queen regent) - Hey Sansa , would you like a new dress ? Sansa (idiot) - Would I ever ! I know you've been doing horrible things to me ever since you killed my dad but now you're finally warming up to me ! Yay ! Moments later Cersei - How does it fit ? Sansa - Great , I love it ! It kind of looks like a wedding dress though ? Cersei - Yup , hey , why don't we go to the sept (church) for a second ? Sansa - Okay , I don't see why not . And then BAM ! Ambush wedding . It was incredibly awesome . Stupid Sansa , I hate Sansa . I never want to get married but if its going to happen I want it to go down like that . I'm just trying on a tux and then WHAMO ! Married . Deal with it . In other news one of my fat friends just started a diet and last week when he was munching on his healthy snacks during gaming he got a look of utter disgust on his face and was heard to remark "I'm starting to think that everything that's healthy for you tastes bad ." We all packed up laughing because that is probably the most obvious thing ever said ever in the history of ever . Everyone knows there is ONE rule for dieting . If it tastes<b> edible </font></b>don't eat it Speaking of which one of my co-workers started a side business baking baked goods and she brought in some dried cherry and whole oat and something else disgusting cookies and when my boss tried one this terrible look came over her face and she whispered "It tastes . . . . healthy" I don't think anyone else came near them . I haven't done much complaining lately (HA !) so here is what my typical day at work is like . Someone - OMG god ! Problem ! Problem ! Problem ! Problem ! Panic ! Panic ! Panic ! OMG god ! Me - Solution Someone - Yeah . . . . . . . that could work . . . . . . seems like a lot of effort though . . . . . (gross sucking noises) tell you what , why don't we wait until its too late and then try that ? Me - Won't it be too late then ? Someone - Thanks a bunch . I'll make sure the dude who's leaving on PTO tomorrow gets an e-mail to work on this 15 minutes after he's gone for the day . Thanks a bunch . Speaking of work the office hot chick got her hair cut short and it looks awful . In general I have no issues with short hair on the ladyfolk , but this is just bad . I thought she was a dude when I saw her initially . Its wrong to judge women by their appearance . But she's hideous now and I hate her . There is a new dude there named Falcon though . Which is pretty cool/dumb . Putting first by putting employees first, immediately after prioritizing fiscal responsibilities and leveraging profitability towards exceeding by empowering our employees to put (and themselves) first, in a diverse and respectful environment of only those that come first, first. |
