Summer Sex Tips

Ahh, summer: Lemonade, porch swings, and the best freakin’ sex of the year. That’s right — according to experts, it really is the season that brings your lust life to a boil. “Heat relaxes your muscles, heightens skin sensation, and causes you to slow down and get in touch with your more languid, sultry side,” says psychologist Stella Resnick, PhD, author of The Pleasure Zone. Ready to gear up for your most torrid summer ever? Thought so.

HOT HINT 1: Dress for the Weather
To light up your guy’s libido, treat him to his very own wet tee shirt fantasy. Put on a tissue-thin white tee or tank top and “accidentally” get wet (say, by getting sprayed by the garden hose) so that it clings alluringly to your body. Wearing a damp top will not only cool you off, it’ll also drive him loco. “Men respond strongly to visual cues,” says Resnick. “Being partially clothed creates a bit of mystery that guys find very erotic. And the sight of you in a see through top that hugs your womanly curves and showcases your breasts will really turn him on.”

HOT HINT 2: Turn Off the AC
BO phobes take note: Perspiration can have an invigorating effect on your sex life. “When you sweat, mate-attracting pheromones are excreted by scent glands in your skin,” says psychiatrist Alan Hirsch, director of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago. “Neither of you will consciously notice the pheromones, but they register in the part of your brain that controls sexual urges and triggers desire.”

Sweating also augments your own natural scent. “When you’re in love or even just in lust with somebody, there’s nothing more enticing than their smell, and the heat really amps it up,” says sexologist Lisa Douglass, coauthor of The Sex You Want.

To tap into sweat’s seductive powers, let your bedroom’s temp get tropical, then send your man into a foreplay frenzy by massaging his body with your own. “While the sight of your flushed naked body will arouse him, men generally need firmer manhandling to become really turned on and have their pleasure pushed to the next level,” says Douglass.

With that in mind, push your breasts hard up against your guy, rubbing them across his chest and then sliding down his body with your nipples grazing his torso. To intensify your touch, deliver some frisky nips to his neck, abdomen, and buns.
HOT HINT 3: Work the Slow Burn
“In the heat, your breathing and movements naturally slow down,” says Resnick. “You can make the most of this effect by taking your sweet time during foreplay and intercourse.”

To kick-start your slo-mo lovemaking, present your man with a hot challenge: Make a bet that you can hold out on pouncing longer than he can. Then torment him with nerve-tingling kisses all over his neck and torso; stroke him softly where his thigh meets his groin; trail your hair and lips down his back to fire up his sensual anticipation. Then it’s his turn to tempt you. “Keep alternating — slowly escalating the level of contact—until you can’t stand it for another second,” says Resnick. “When you build arousal slowly to a fever pitch, your orgasm will be a powerful release.”

HOT HINT 4: Blast Your Hot Spots
The term cold shower may be a modern euphemism for “sex ain’t happening,” but icy spritzing on a small scale can actually prolong your pleasure. “When there’s a constancy in warmth, the body begins to adapt — meaning, sensitivity is decreased,” says Resnick. “A well-timed—and placed—shock of cold against sweltering skin will step up arousal and send a pleasure charge coursing through your body.”

Keep a spray bottle filled with ice water next to the bed, and give each other a strategic spritz to extend the encounter whenever things seem to be getting too hot. “To trigger a more intense pleasure response, aim for the nerve-packed, thin-skinned areas on each other’s body, such as the nipples, the back of the neck, the inner thighs, the tailbone, or the backs of your knees,” says Resnick.

HOT HINT 5: Enjoy an Arctic Thrill
The perfect summer sex toy: a minty skin-tingling lube (try Durex Play Tingling, $6). “The unusual chilling sensation when your body is extra warm makes you hyperaware of your pleasure points, so the minute they’re touched, you feel an ultra-lusty rush,” says sex educator Sari Locker, author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Amazing Sex. “The cooling sensation becomes more pronounced with each thrust, and it feels incredible on erogenous zones. It’s literally like your nerves are standing on end!”

To indulge, pour a nickel-size amount into your palm. “Then slowly spread the liquid over his penis, starting at the tip and working your way gradually down his shaft,” says Locker. Have him return the favor by smoothing some of the lube onto your privates.
