While I don't protect my identity as such, and use a face picture on my profile, I do take steps to protect myself from identity theft - by using a little different birth date and a little different city of residence than is true for me... That way I can let people know what my age and area of residence are, without leaving myself open to easy identity theft...

I've never had a problem, maybe because I'm careful. I have an email address for friends and family but use hotmail and gmail for places like Adult Dating zone. You are so right though, we have to be very careful so many people out to hurt for no reason or to extort money or blackmail or whatever. I hope everyone on here is careful and has no problems. Great post.... Able202

Remember in the movie, The Wizard of Oz, how the Wizard hid behind the curtain? Then, when Toto tugged on the curtain, and Dorothy and her friends discovered him, he announced over the loudspeaker: "PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN!!!" Remember? Well, that's us. Dorothy and her friends, they represent our family and friends. The Wizard of Oz, the true Wizard, is God. The curtain we are masking, hiding our identity behind, is the Internet. There's a verse in the Christian Bible that speaks to this. Something about . . .that which is done in secret, in darkness, will be revealed in public, in the light of day. I realize that to many that will mean nothing. They have nothing to hide. But for me, it's probably going to be a little embarrassing! I know that I went off topic or too far into topic. Feel free to delete this if it is not appropriate. PAY NO ATTENTION TO THAT LITTLE PERVERT WITH THE KEYBOARD . . . Anything done half-heartedly will net you an equivalent result. ~CH

How to protect it? Don't give out any identifying info online. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Here, I don't particularly worry about it. .. It's kinda about meeting people anyway.(I have been found out before, and it was ok. I also don't have a lot to lose by being found out.) But on other sites and areas of life, it is very important to keep my "identity" secure. I have and am encountering a few .. Shall I say ... Inconveniences. Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.
