Eros

According to some sources, Eros was the of the goddess Aphrodite. As Aphrodite's , Eros loses a bit of his power and prestige and becomes more of a companion to the goddess of love and desire. This could be one possible explanation for why Eros, over the centuries, is transformed in myth and art from a handsome young man to a chubby mischievous . However, acknowledging the how Eros may sometime lead to passion and its well known "fumes", there is not doubt in my mind that desire and love remain the "fire" of the human life.

 You're well informed. He has been unlucky in love, despite the positive attributes you're giving to him (possibly rightly).
I've actually met him before his greatest success and he was a very fine young man. We were both very young, so I can't tell much more than that.
