By The Cape

I wrote this poem as one of the places I would escape to for a weekend get-away. It could be any Cape along the northern east coast. You make the picnic basket and I will get the fishing gear ready. Let's escape!

We fished by the cape one summer evening
Casting into the blue ocean, beyond the white caps
The cool frothy water rush upon our feet
Shifting the sand beneath us with each return

We sat on a blanket by a small dune
Eating cheese and fruit and sipping champagne
We watched the sun paint a picture on its canvas
With splashes of oranges, yellows and magentas
Blending into the vast blue gray sky

The gentle breeze from the coast
Caressed our warm skin
While schooners sailed across the horizon
And box kites and sea gulls floated in the air
As we disclosed our deepest secrets

We walked the beach holding hands that night
Our lips touched softly tasting the sweet saltiness
With the moon and stars shinning down
As music from the waves filled the air
