When I started going to the gym 5 or so years ago, it was mostly due to the desire to strengthen my core to alleviate on-going and recurring lower back issues. I'm not going to say my lower back doesn't still get cranky, especially after long sessions of yard work, but it never has gotten to the level of needing muscle relaxers.

I started working on my core exercises this week. I have got to get some strength back in my lower back. I'm so tired of it hurting after what I consider a little edging time of my yard. I've got a friend that is into natural bodybuilding and she said it was ok to work the core muscles every day, just do different exercises each day so that they are worked in a different way. My doctor says it's never too late to find one's core. We'll see if this approach works better than what I've been doing.
