HOW WELL DO YOU SLEEP?

HOW WELL DO YOU SLEEP?

There's a lot of scientific research being done on every aspect of our lives and especially in the fields of holistic health and longevity.

I've enjoyed my life so much that I've become a sponge, soaking up everything I hear, read, or see on the big flat screen regarding research in the ways to stay healthy and active into our very senior years. I also vividly remember a Governor of Colorado--Governor Lamb--hitting the news in a big way about a decade ago-- when he stated in a speech that old people have a duty to die, to make room for the young. I'm sure there are people today who feel that same way. Crap! I may have felt that way myself when I was in my twenties! But believe me young beauties, life goes by faster than a speeding bullet when you're having fun!

In my case, regarding all that I've read and absorbed like a sponge, and applied to myself has worked.

How well do you sleep? Sleeping well is essential to well-being and good health...

Do you toss and turn and finally give up the struggle to get to sleep and just get up and do something else until morning arrives? If so your health is being seriously compromised.

A good night's sleep is one of the most important factors in keeping our bodies and minds healthy. Deep sleep, including dreaming, is the way our systems repair and restore themselves.

My friends laugh at me when I tell them I remove my teeth at four in the afternoon so I can't eat anything after that time. Years ago, when I would munch on things right up until I went to bed, my full stomach would keep me awake. Now I'll sip a little alkaline water in the afternoon and evening but stay away from anything else.

One of the secrets to maturing well, is the development of a little self-discipline, and my ability to do THAT didn't start until I was well into my forties.

I regularly go to bed between 9 and 10 and get up between 5:30 and 6 AM. Prior to going to bed I take between 3 and 9 mgs. of Melatonin and 500 mgs. of Magnesium.

A long time ago--at least 20 years--I read a research book on the effects of Melatonin on our Pineal gland. The Pineal gland sits in our frontal cortex between our eyes, and secretes Melatonin. Most people think the thyroid gland is the master gland in our bodies, but in fact it's the Pineal gland and its tiny trickle of Melatonin that acts in a host of ways throughout our bodies, even acting as an antioxidant.

As we age, the Pineal reduces it's trickle of Melatonin and sometimes becomes calcified and stops the secretion of Melatonin completely.

The Melatonin made and distributed in health food stores is identical to that make by our bodies. I've been taking small doses of it from middle age to my current age. The research done on white mice and melatonin has been done many times in various research facilities and the findings are conclusive: the mice given low doses of melatonin live approximately 1/3 longer and are generally much healthier than the mice not given the melatonin. (The mice given the Melatonin, also stay sexually active long after the mice not given the Melatonin have given THAT all up.)

Of course we're not white mice! The title of the book I read is THE MELATONIN MIRACLE.. The book is around my place somewhere, I don't remember the names of the authors, but I remember there were two authors and they were both research scientists with Phd's. The back of the book included many graphs and charts and proofs of tests, etc.

A combination of Melatonin, magnesium and sometimes calcium, quiet conditions, a comfortable bed, and the temperature set at about 68-70 allow me to sleep like a new-born baby.

I hope your sleep is also something you look forward to after a busy day, and that you wake up refreshed and ready to get out into the world swinging!

I hear what you're saying, Silky! As the mother of 3 boys you probably need to be up and around to keep order. xxxdavid

I'm not sure if in my entire life that I've slept 8 hrs straight........at the very best of times i might of slept 6 hrs.
Well, another thing that "THEY'VE" found is that we're all different in our physical, mental, and chemical makeups. If you don't feel tired all the time and find yourself falling asleep at odd times, your body may not require such a long time to charge back up. I personally love my sleep time and look forward to the great dreams I sometimes have. It's like going to a movie with me as one of the chief actors in the dream. xxxdavod

I'm not much of a sleeper, anywhere from 2 1/2 hrs to 5 hrs a night
That's not good for you Silky. I know plenty of other people only get that much sleep too, but the research shows we all need more than what you're getting. A lot of old people like me don't get enough sleep, but I get a good eight hours except when M. is here to mess around with! xxxxdavid
