Old Man Winter...
Old Man Winter... Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming Photographer Anita Erdmann ...Seems to have gone on vacation here. The weather forecast for Kansas City for the upcoming weekend calls for cloudless blue skies and temps in the lower sixties. Let me introduce you to my special brand of crazy now. I HATE snow, I hate cold weather, I start getting disgusted in October and by this time of the year I am usually struck with a raging dose of cabin fever. But today, I want it to snow. It just feels so strange to me that I am out running about in light sweatshirts and still wearing my sandals, that I am actually wanting to see snow. We went out for two of our 'let's just drive whatever direction our eyes take us' drives. I managed to get some wonderful photos of deer, and even a couple of halfway decent bird shots. I found a whole flock of Cedar Waxwings and a very cooperative sparrow hawk. The sun felt so good, even filtered through the window of the truck, it was warm and toasty. I know some of you guys are getting snowed upon, and I hear that Florida is freezing right now. So, how's the weather at your place? Because I really REALLY don't have one thing to blog about, and I am curious to know if the Midwest is the only place where the weather seems to be very unusual. Here in the PNW...it's been very strange weather wise...driest Nov/Dec in decades...we almost made up for it this week though...with our usual monsoon week...no snow...Lucille is very Happy about that...the outrigger skiis make her look fat... This is the strangest winter I have ever seen in my life. It is really spring-like here. The bugs are going to be horrid this summer. "Shall I tell you the secret of the true scholar? It is this: every man I meet is my master in some point, and in that I learn of him." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Yeah, I read about it a couple of days ago. Fracking and waste water wells are what are causing them, THEY speculate. I just wondered if you were one of the lucky folks who got to take a ride on nature's sybian. Maybe it is the perv in me, but I have always wondered if one were in the middle of an orgasm when an earthquake hit...how long would it take for you to notice? I think we all know Cold-Maker is lurking just around the corner...and I fear we're going to pay for this beautiful weather in February and March.. I just want to enjoy the days of warmth we've been granted.. "Shall I tell you the secret of the true scholar? Although I was born and reared near Phillie, I am a southern boy now by virtue of having spent so much time in the south. BUT I say it is HAS to be cold, I WANT SNOW! Now overall I still prefer summer (tank tops and bathing suits) to winter (sweaters and NHO weather) but SNOW is pretty. On a side note – a long term goal for me is to go to Yellowstone in the dead of winter. Can you imagine the photographs with the contrast of fire and ice? PRIDE! It is so nice to 'see' you, I have been thinking about you and wondering how you were. Enjoy as much as you can my friend, there are no guarantees on the number of days any of us are able to do so. "Shall I tell you the secret of the true scholar? Another place that is warm when it should be cold. There is nothing anyone can do to alter it, not without destroying our home, so I take it as it comes. But thinking about it gives me something to do with my mind instead of plotting to take over the world. "Shall I tell you the secret of the true scholar? You can feel free just to keep that snow up there. If I get all that nostalgic about it, I will just get in the car and drive north lol. I love the look of snow, miss it when I don't see any...but I certainly do not like trying to function in the mess it makes. And I surely don't miss the ache it causes in these old bones. From your lips to God's ear. I would love to be a snowbird to your lovely island. Alas, I was not born with the kind of cash that makes that possible, and after over 30 years of trying to earn that kind of cash to no avail, I feel secure in saying it ain't bloody likely to happen. But the optimist in me never says never. I would love to go clubbing with you! "Shall I tell you the secret of the true scholar? I don't want to complain, but it is starting to freak me out a little. I'm used to just waiting for the next blizzard to roll through, and it's warm and dry Like it's still fall! Sure, it's nice to drive when it's nice, but in the long run it's not good for business. **sigh** "Shall I tell you the secret of the true scholar?
