A New Pair of Eyes

Well the day finally arrived that my new pair of glasses came in. Eye wear today is an expensive issue. Especially when you are involved in activities that require the use of specialty eye wear such as motorcycling.

Last year when I was diagnosed with diabetes, my eyes went through several changes very rapidly. Fortunately for me, my eyes have actually progressed slightly. For a while though, I went back and forth. This causing me to be the owner of at one time, 5 different pair of glasses. One for work, one for driving, one for reading only and two for the motorcycle! Did i mention that insurance only covers ONE pair of glasses every two years? Did I mention that they only cover ONE pair of lenses????

Luckily, I'm getting fewer pair of glasses but I'm in need of different lenses these days. After searching and even more searching, lenses are just DAMN EXPENSIVE! I still need bi-focals for work. Distance only for watching TV or going the movies and such and I must have a specific pair of glasses that hopefully will pull double duty for both day and night while riding the motorcycle. Single prescription eye wear can be reasonable but get into bi-focal lenses and it's a whole other story. My daily wear glasses... $275 for lenses ONLY! For the motorcycle, daytime only as they are tinted dark, $400-$500 for new lenses!!!! I could get my vision plan to pay for lenses but even with that, I'd pay $375 out of pocket.

I found an eye wear place on that other social place that afforded me an alternative. They provided a much cheaper alternative to the ones I had already found. For an amazing $123, I bought a new pair of glasses. Frames, lenses with all the features. Anti-scratch, anti-reflective and UV protection as well as Transition lenses. I was totally impressed.

The only problem with purchasing eye wear over the Internet is you don't get to try them on. Sure they offer a money back guarantee but is it worth it. My glasses arrive today and when I open them up, I find that the frames are much bigger than I had anticipated. They appear like something my dad would have worn!!! Gawd.... Has life come to this?

I doubt I'll send them back as I do plan on buying other pairs as funds allow so perhaps better luck next time on the dimensions. At least the prescription is correct and I can see again. Although the readers will take some getting used too again. My old ones were no longer good for reading but they worked great for driving or medium distances. These make it blurry again when walking up stairs again. A minor adjustment to get over. If you want to know of a cheap place to buy glasses and you're willing to take a chance on unseen frames, shoot me an email and I'll give you their address. The cost and ability to see again out weighs the other.

Motorcycle eye wear is the thing I worry about most. I will definitely be purchasing another pair of glasses from this same place. I will be a bit more careful with seeing the sizes next time.
