A glimpse into my world...
A glimpse into my world... I just need someone - anyone to understand what I have to deal with here... So when my was a year old he climbed out of his playpen, kicked out a screen dropped down to the deck and went running down the street in nothing but a diaper. Oh but that was just a glimpse… At four years old he hears me tell him not to come near the stove as it is hot. OF COURSE thats when he decides to put his whole hand down on the red hot burner. He received third degree burns on his palm in the process and was silver nitrated and gauzed up for weeks. You’d think having to deal with a sock on your hand for that long would teach you to listen to your mother’s warnings right? But oh no… picture a small scented candle in his room. He’s demonstrated responsible behavior with it for almost a month. He’s heeded my warnings about flammable items. It all changes in an instant. I still don’t know why he did what he did, he still insists the wind (in a room without the air on) blew the candle over somehow – he came running into the kitchen with a flaming piece of paper in his hands. My guess is, he’d listened to me long enough and his curiosity just got the better of him. This was just last week by the way… Today though, tops all. We’re on a bike ride on a rail trail (a paved trail that used to be train tracks). We spot a farm with several horses. Between us and the farm are woods, two fences and a muddy creek bed. But my finds a way through all of that to get closer to these horses. I’m telling him not to touch anything, to come back to our side the whole time. Does he listen? No… “I’m not trespassing as long as I’m on this side of the fence” he says. At the same moment I hear his now famous undertone of “ow”. You know – the one where you know he got hurt pretty bad but doesn’t want you to know it – an avoidance of the “I told you so” factor I guess. Turns out the fence had an electric current running through it and he got a tiny little shock. So who wants to take bets? Will the boy learn his lesson and listen to me now? Better question – will he survive to see his next birthday (he’s only 10)? Will I? Hear my brain work when you check out the Cricket's Chirp |

Not sure what to say to all that Methinks his advanced experiments in the extent of 'the limits' are far from over. All are welcome to an audience with The Magnificent One oldirtybacchus

he's inquisitive (which is a good thing)... but maybe not so much when you are the mom and get the knot in your stomach knowing that those moments of pushing the boundaries do result in pain.. don't worry, he'll figure it out (I did... or did I?) Maybe you should just disregard what I just said, lol.. btw, glad he did NOT do worse with knocking over the candle in his room.. that would have scared me to no end! Oh man sounds like your son is adventurous. Was his father in the picture to teach him right from wrong?

OMG... I am not shitting you... I actually did every one of those things as well growing up. And to this day, I still remember the shock I received from the electric horse fencing. He's an typical boy in my opinion. I think his adventurous side will turn to lots of funny stories down the road. BTW... don't let him climb trees.... this is stretching out too far the point seems to be that you should have pounded his little ass til he's crying from pain first, BUT YOU DIDN'T! now as he faces every possible scenario in which he should choose safety and be sensible, he goes exactly opposite and the results are predictable. is there no father figure in his life?when i was young, and those choices presented themselves, i'd had that father figure, having coached me right from wrong.when he was present and witnessed foolish behaviour, he'd offer me two large and powerful reminders that his judgment was to be respected and remembered when i faced any eventual choices.so....as i stated, with a father figure, one can expect a better outcome, without it, you see how this can become a permanent issue............bigplans (post 253332
