Being real...

I am just having a good time connecting with people. I post on people's blogs, write complete strangers emails, and just try to be myself, whoever that is. I just try to be real, and genuine.

I clicked on the profile of a woman living in Charlotte. She was very attractive, and had a nice profile. I decided to complement her on her picture, and told her that we lived too far apart, but wished her good luck finding someone.

I did this only because I read so many blogs where women complain about men sending message with unpleasant topics and text. Who doesn't like complements?

More to the point... I sent a nice message to a woman, who responded with a message that seemed to completely ignore what I had written to her. She basically wanted to hook up. I'm still a guy, and decided to pursue further...

She told me she would provide me with more contact info on another site that had more pictures of her, and felt more comfortable with me learning more about her on this other site.

I took a look at this other site, and it ended with me having to provide a credit card and spending money to be "verified" that I was and adult, and gave the justification that by filling out info about myself, I was making it safe for the women on the site. On the surface, a good person could rationalize that this is a good thing to do. It also eluded that by providing this info, and something terrible happened to the woman I contacted, that there would be some way of finding me. (In case I was an axe murderer.) What a load of CRAP.

I thought all along that it was too weird. I told a buddy at work about the whole thing, and he told me he got caught up in a similar scheme. He had a difficult time with his credit card and credit score.

It's a sad day when a guy who just wants to meet a woman winds up getting duped by scammers.

It's bad enough a person has to worry that someone they meet may be riddled with diseases, but to not even get a chance to catch something? All they get is a battle with banking institutions.

I will tell all of you that i AM TRYING TO REPRESENT MYSELF AS WHO i AM. Caps lock got me again!!! Continuing...

It pays to pay attention to all the data available before committing your money. No matter what the circumstance. If it sounds too good to be true, it prolly is!

Good luck out there. Be smart and safe!

Julie,

The only way I'm spending ANY money is to buy someone a cup of coffee, an adult beverage, or something tasty to eat! I can't see it any other way. Identity theft, and all the cyber crime sounds terrible. It isn't on my mind 24-7, but when it comes to putting something out there that I didn't actually ask for... It just ain't gonna happen.

Thanks for dropping by! TBONE, Tom.
