I certainly see where you're coming from regarding your wish to please your audience and additionally to minimise offending. At the end of the day however, this is your blog, a place where you should be able to be yourself fully.

Certainly, in the beginning before you made so many friends on here, as you stated, you held far less reservations. Remember though that your friends were actually drawn to you upon reading your candour in the first place.

In short, you should never, ever compromise your integrity. As in life outside of here, there will always be those who agree with your points of view and conversely those who do not share your opinions. Being true unto ourselves is the best we can do

It seems you have answered your own question/quandary.
Yes, it's easy to just let go and be oneself when there is nothing to lose, nothing at stake, no one to give a flying ferret.
But... slip a little sincerity in there... a little caring... a wee bit o-- feeling ,
and it all goes to hell.

To this idiot, you are not what you proudly proclaim to be.
IF you are totally honest, totally real... what-you-see/read-is-what-you-get, then it should make no difference when your blog readers start to mean something real to you.
You came here to be "free"?
Yes and no.
You came here to run away from being false to all those in your immediate life and shed your tattered robes and feel wild and pure and free. An anonymous streaker across the Adult Dating zone football field (hah! sports reference. points for me!).
But damn you all to hell for being a caring woman with a heart of gold... your anonymous spectators in the stands became friends.
Now you are self conscious and want to reach for a towel!

It seems (to me) you can only be your (perceived) honest self with total strangers with nothing at risk.

you aren't wrong, you're right.

If you want to let it all out, then do so. If you censor yourself then maybe you won't offend people, but equally you won't be true to yourself and you'll make yourself even more unhappy.

So maybe your candour will lose some readers. So what? Venting is the thing you want your blog for, not popularity... and I know that plenty of people will still read you, because you strike a chord in their lives.

Oh Subs, I could have written this. I remember when my version of Blog Land was just me, in a vacuum, talking about myself. Then I started to meet bloggers and now I can't say a lot of stuff! I use metaphors sometimes and others I just keep my mouth shut. I always have to think about what I am going to write. It can be a pain and no, it's not the same as it was before, but I treasure my friendships with bloggers and I wouldn't trade those for being able to say anything freely here.
