Oregon shooter

Another depressing mass shooting tragedy. Guns deserve some of the blame, but so do many things.

To make a fire you need fuel, heat and a spark. Remove one of these three and no fire.

To make a mass murder you need guns or explosives, a mentally deranged person and untreated mental illness, with no loving family and friends to support better mental health.

Guns only make the violent urges more easily able to cause mass death.

A strict and accurate background check only turns up people with a criminal past or mental health commitment to a mental hospital. So the first tragedy is not able to be averted by background checks.

A ban on more than ten bullets in a semi auto pistol magazine is solved by carrying four pistols so 40 can be shot and killed.

The US has more than 300 million guns, so guns are more accessible here than any where else in the world, with the possible exceptions of Afghanistan or Somalia.

Gun deaths average 32,000 per year for the last few years, with 20,000 being suicides.

The only surprise is there is not more gun deaths. The NRA proposes arming everyone and there would be regular shoot outs between the good guys and the bad guys. Does that sound like there would be more of fewer deaths in the NRA heaven on Earth?

So back to averting mass tragedies. I think it happens one at a time. The parents have to love and support the . If the shows signs of mental illness the parents need to get professional mental health counseling for the . We need mental health support and insurance to pay for it. Just as our physical infrastructure is crumbling from lack of investment, our mental health system is under funded.

We need lonely under loved to get the love and support to thrive and turn away from violent urges to gain fleeting fame as a mass murderer. Successful and well loved people do not commit mass murders.

No one immediately after a big orgasm said, lets go kill a bunch of innocent college ...

It seems like these people are looking for some sort of fame or notoriety and they use the social media to get this accomplished. I sometimes wonder if these things would happen if there was no Facebook or other social media outlets.

Then what's the answer?

Ban all guns. I remember the same solution with marijuana, alcohol and prostitution. How did that turn out? The answer is to ban all mental illness, ignorance, racism, bigotry, drugs, crime, divorce, infidelity, depression, terrorism, religion, anything sharp, poisons, plastic bags, the list is endless. Do we ban baseball when they use bats when the guns are gone? There is no simple solution.

Actually mass shootings are rare and cannot be stopped so long as mental illness and guns are prevalent.
