Sex as a cost of mentorship

I am sure I will get slammed for this post.

I am opposed to sexual harassment and any person using the job to get sex. Male or rarely females. I think the sex dirimination laws should apply to coerced sex as sex dirimination. I don't think the courts have made that clear yet.

But the idea of a mentor asking for a sexual relationship with an apprentice has a long history going back at least to the Greeks in the BC era. The Greeks thought this relationship was the highest form of love. The mere breeding of men with women was not considered as exalted as male holar and young male apprentice.

Many married people met at work; Bill and Melinda Gates for . Michael Douglas sought out his fellow actor Zeta Js through the actor connection. Expressing interest in a co-worker is ok if it leads to marriage, apparently.

Perhaps an offer to join a consensual love connection to an adult by an adult, without any adverse result for a rejection, should not be banned as criminal or civilly tortuous. Otherwise normal dating is made illegal. Which seems overly invading the civil rights of men and women.

Now some women will argue that due to the power imbalance no supervisor should make such an offer to a subordinate. There is some sense to that point. A direct supervisor should not be abusing his or her power. But many family businesses have a husband and wife work together, and they presumably have a sexual relationship or used to do so...

In the military officers are not supposed to fraternize with enlisted members, but within the officers they can date and enlisted can date enlisted... May not be a good plan, but not banned if all consent.

In California lawyers cannot have sex with but former can do so with consent; also married people can represent each other if a case comes up after the marriage...

Imagine this hypothetical: a woman executive wants a close confidant and lover as a sounding board. In a private company, this boss wants the assistant to travel with her and share her bed and ideas, including sex. Apprentice can refuse the position or agree. If they breakup he has to find another job, with weeks severance . Should this arrangement be illegal or seen as immoral? Would you take the job? Would you feel used or demeaned? What if the experience led to an exciting and lucrative career in the film industry? Not as simple as it first appears I think.
