Losing someone is never easy, but the most difficult is always the people you are in love with. I've found a few things that tell me when she's a "loved" one and not just a friend, mostly when you've been together for (x amount of months/years) - depends, but a month or two at least, you know their habits by heart, can read moods absolutely, get into the daily trend both boring and fun - the worst, we all do it, you'll believe a lie even defend them knowing the truth. This one really sucks, but another sure fire indicator your in love. Those two qualities stick out, there are more, but reading this I can't help but remember that kind of loss. It's like losing the ability to see or hear, only everything emotionally turns off. Rebounds, alcohol and drugs become "okay" to alleviate pain, it's pretty wild and this isn't constructive at all I know. I mention it as a reminder of lost time being so hung up on who I thought was the one. She wasn't, but maybe we have to go through the stages of grief?

I had something with that passionate sex and the other soul deep connection too for about a year and a half. It ended seven years ago. It took several years to get mostly over it. I have all the hot e-mail love letters we sent too. I finally could read them a year ago. I now have someone that I connect with on an even deeper soul, intellectual, emotional level but not so much on the purely sexual level. Still I am content mostly. No don't have anything like that in my life currently and haven't for many years, 22 years actually. And I very much doubt I will ever find that again. I have a very difficult time allowing anyone in my life that much. I even keep my current FWB at a distance.
