Listening In On My Conversations (or Is Your Time Worth So Little?)

I had an interesting conversation with someone about how their Internet was being monitored by a foreign government. I managed to hold my tongue, but only barely. It was more likely that the monitoring was being done by the US government, but it led back to the whole Patriot Act and traitor in Russia issues. What if they are listening?

I don't actually believe anyone is actively listening to me beyond the people watching or stopping by my blog and the occasional person I am chatting or talking with in person, on phone, or through the grand and under-appreciated Internet. It is much more likely that such things are being monitored by some sort of bot that records everything and filters for specific words, phrases, or numbers. Then, maybe a human being would review the information if it triggered a sensor somewhere. I'm sure we all know what key words those are.

My opinion about being monitored, by the way, hasn't changed over the last decade. If the government wants to monitor my every action in some grand Big Brother (Orwell, not CBS) society, I have nothing to hide. My uneventful sex life might even provide a comic relief for an overworked but humble functionary.

I don't happen to have anything nice to say about Obama or Romney, but people made claims of both that no human being could ever live up to in a lifetime. Obama didn't earn a Nobel Peace Prize by being elected president or sending troops to kill a terrorist in Pakistan, and anyone (read Romney) who says people should choose “voluntary deportation” doesn't understand an issue that is key to the country.

Which brings us back to the traitor in Russia. What we've heard is that the US government spied on people, including but not limited to the German Chancellor (Angela is my favorite) and the Russian President (won't mention the Ukraine or comparisons to other expansionist exercises... already been there, I'm sure). Who didn't know we spied on them? Certainly the German Chancellor and Russian President were long aware of these facts. Equally sure is the fact that the German and Russian governments spy on the US President, Senators, Congressmen, postal employees... It is the intelligence community, and they have rather broad scopes in all countries. They do the same with their own people.

If the government decided that they wanted to review my medical records, I might be a little annoyed. I wouldn't like Michelle complaining about how little I exercise on a slow news day or to deflect criticism about a Marie Antoinette style trip to France with an entourage but without the President and entirely paid for on taxpayer dollars while most people were enjoying their Staycations. I might choose the opportunity to ask if she was the father of the and the President had been their mother. I could see them as having been transgendered and becoming transsexuals after having the together. Both having lived as the gender they knew they were from a very young age. It would actually explain a few things, and Obama could be our first transsexual president. Or maybe he isn't fully post-op and could be considered transgendered? He'd certainly be more interesting, but I suppose he wouldn't be our first female president at that. More's the pity that we haven't had one yet.

Oh, how I will ramble. Write a note if I offended you. I may not respond, but it will amuse me.

Haha! That was funny! I agree. They can spy on me all they want to. I don't even care about saying all the key words. I won't do it here because then they would have to look at you, and I wouldn't want to do that to you. LOL!

I need a really great kiss!!

One of my favorite radio shows closes every Saturday with "Thank you, ladies and gentlemen and the Department of Homeland Security, for listening to my show" (he immigrated to USA 20+ years ago)

I had a friend comment about that once, and I said "Well, if they're listening in on my phone calls, I hope they're enjoying the phone sex".
