Great list

Though... 4 places I've lived???

California (Redding? well, that's where I was born), Spokane, Coeur d'Alene, Spokane... um... would that count? I've lived in 2 places in Spokane Washington, 3 places in Coeur d'Alene Idaho, and ... all the various hospitally type places they sent me in Cali and wherever my parents actually lived before they returned to Spokane.

I guess I need to move haha.

That one about Congress was tongue in cheek, for sure.
I worked for a company in Phoenix, Tucson and Albuquerque that rented sound, lighting and stage equipment, and set up men and operators for touring groups, so I didn't travel with one band. I traveled in that two state area and worked shows for Procul Harem, Lee Michaels, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Roberta Flack, Grand Funk Railroad, Glenn Campbell...I can't even remember all of them. Fleetwood Mac. But if they did a show in that area in that '73-'74 timeframe, I most likely either built a stage or operated a Trouper or a SuperTrouper spotlight for their show. My buddy and roomie was electrican for that company and I was the trade show floor man and we did double duty working the concerts. Some shows he did the wiring so he'd use me as his grunt and we could see the concert for free, while we were on stand by. We hauled staging to Albuquerque for Elton John and Roberta Flack and built the stage on site. The speakers were so loud and vibrated so much that it started shaking our speaker wings apart. We crawled underneath and started driving nails, trying to time our hammering to the bass. The sound tech crawled under there after us and started giving us hell for our racket. He said we were fucking up the show. We tried explaining what was gonna happen when those stacks of speakers toppled over into the audience, but he wasn't having it, so we had to quit. The three of us went out back and sweated out the entire concert, planning where in Mexico we were gonna flee to after we had killed and injured all those freaks. That was the longest concert I ever heard, but our stage held long enough. The joint we smoked when it was over was the best I ever smoked!

No, don't move. I had a neighbor in Lawton, Michigan who was my age (fifty) and had lived on the same farm all his life. I thought that was kind of cool, myself, having lived all over the place. There isn't a damn thing wrong with not moving around a lot.

Like I said to DSK, I think it's kind of cool to have lived all your life in one place. Moving around sounds cool when you're young- and it IS kind of cool when you're young- but being very familiar and comfortable in a place has a cool all its own. Especially as you get older.

I don't know how you manage it by phone. I know at least one other blogger who writes and submits by phone and i'm in awe of you. That has to be quite a chore.
I'd love to try your lasagna! My mom used to make it for me on my birthday every year. And whenever there was a birth, a marriage or a death in the neighborhood we'd have the women in the enclave bringing lasagna, ravioli, manicotti- all homemade! I love all that stuff. Chicken cacciatore I can do without. My grandfather used to make it and I didn't like it. I'd finally get my plate clean and he'd heap more cacciatore on it and say "Eat! Eat!"

I did the long haul stuff when I was young but almost all my driving was on local routes- home every night, just like a real job. I pulled some double trailers quite a bit too but again, most of my semi driving was a regular city delivery route, with the same customers every day. I enjoyed it- it was like driving around visiting with friends all day long, telling jokes and swapping lies!
It's hard to have a home and a family when you're out on the highway for weeks at a time.

From having driven cross country three times, I found that the whole secret to a successful trip with the minimum number of problems is in the preparation for the trip.

Figure out the farthest points in each direction you want to go and what places or people you want to see along the way. Once you have a good idea of that, then you can begin to plan your route. Leave yourself some leeway in the travel times because you never know when you'll run across traffic, construction or something else which could delay you. Make reservations for where you can spend the night before you leave as much as you can, as that will give you a target to reach each day, plus enable you to work out the timing for your entire trip. Finally, a week or so before you leave, have a trusted mechanic thoroughly go over the vehicle you'll be using to make sure everything is running well and that it won't break down out in the middle of nowhere. ENJOY!!!

I moved around to a bunch of places in the Philadelphia area from the time I moved out of my parents' house until I moved into my current home. I got to the point where I HATED moving! That's why I've been here for almost 30 years.

I too make a killer lasagna. When I was growing up, I had an adopted Italian grandmother whose daughter lived next door to us and she taught me how to cook Italian. Several years ago, I made several large pan fulls of lasagna, froze them and gave them out as Christmas presents complete with directions on how to defrost and then cook them. They went over VERY well!!!

I went from living out of a backpack to being a homebody pack rat. Moving is a pain! Like Fight Club tells us, our stuff ends up owning us, but I'm too old and settled to go back. Lasagna would be a great Christmas gift!

Yes, it is. I resisted it at first but I was having a good time reading other bloggers' answers to these questions and it only seemed fair that I share too.
I've had a lot more than four jobs, lived more than four places, re-watched many movies. I left out four books I have read and re-read...there's a lot more i could have added but then what would I blog about? It's an interesting idea for a format though- autobiography in list form. That in itself says something about the person. My sister formats her computer in lists, and I'm more comfortable with icons on mine. Hers is a nice neat organized list and mine is a collage of images.

I don't think so- what commentary? It was appealing to me that these two strange and damaged people are really a lot like all of us and meshed so well with one another, once they allowed themselves to be who they are. It was a quirky and kinky love story that I found comforting. It helped that I really like the actors.

I have always admired the Dutch and their industry and their fascinating history. It seems to me they have always been ahead of the curve in so many ways. Here in West Michigan there was a lot of Dutch immigration, and so many people have a Dutch heritage, but here they are quite conservative. A very close friend of mine, who I worked with for twenty five years, came over on a boat from Holland in 1955 when he was three. He has no interest in Holland or in visiting there, which baffles me!

On the DVD there is a commentary track. It is quite enlightening as well as entertaining.

I agree the actors made it - Spader kills me regularly and Maggie is, well... you know. Jeremy Davies was truly spectacular as the "also ran" conveniently named "Peter". Their first night together... "Lee, Lee, Lee..." with the hand gestures. Too funny -- asked if he hurt her. Snicker...

Ever read the short story from Mary Gaitskill? She's on the commentary track. Brilliant woman.

I love the Dutch in-your-face style. You're quite right about the conservative side of the Dutch, which is why liberal Amsterdam is a great place to visit. The Hague (den Haag), Rotterdam and Maastricht are quite different places!

That's interesting! There has always seemed to me to be an odd duality about the Dutch- just as you've pointed out. It would be informative to find out origins of the immigrants here- I have very little Dutch in my family tree and they go back to New Netherlands and New Amsterdam, so I have not researched the local dutch. Much. The first immigrants here, in the 1850's, were headed for Holland, on the lake shore, but were quarantined due to smallpox and ended up staying. They grew celery in the marshes in Portage and Kalamazoo. Most of the many greenhouses here still have Dutch names- Wedel, Wenke, Elzinga, Meinema and on and on.

I kind of like the limitation. At first I wasn't inclined to share anything at all, but I really enjoyed reading other folks' "fours", and then it seemed like four didn't cover it enough. It's a little information, but not all of it. I left out four books. I love to read and have read all my life...but I don't need to tell everything on the first date.

Cool Hand Luke is probably my favorite movie, if I had to pick one.
I had a friend who was retired from the army after Vietnam- retired due to injury- and he had orders to go there for a physical evaluation, so I went along.

I'd be lost without my wife, truly.
