Saturday Night Un-Alive - But it does not have to be so...
Saturday Night Un-Alive - But it does not have to be so... Another Saturday Night came and went. Do I have any great stories about what happy healthy single guy did last night. No, no I do not. But why? I used to ask myself that and I used to get depressed by the answer. When I was younger if I did not have plans for Friday and Saturday Night, that was considered a High Crime worthy of the guillotine if found convicted of wantingly and willingly not having plans to go out and have fun. But then after College there came the Job and you had to focus on your Career. So sometimes you were so tired by Friday night you pray for a quick drink at the local tavern and head home to bed. Which was ok becase you had Saturday Night.. Then came the day that Saturday Night's dancing, dating, clubing, concerts, plays, dinners at the Hip Spotsl just did not seem so important anymore. and you found yourself home alone on a Saturday Night. I remember my first Saturday night home alone. I was stir crazy. I felt bereft, lost, even a bit confused by the thoughts that enveloped me. Partly felt like a loser for having nothing to do. Happy that I had nothing to do. Sad that I had no one special to enjoy the silence with. Ecstatic to have a quiet moment to reflect on life and not be bothered by phones ringing, someone knocking on my door. etc etc. And then came something even worse. Complacency, I became complacent in my stay at home single guy routine.. This is easy to do, and it sounds bad, complacency. Was I now done with dating and dancing, picking up on girls and the parties that lasted all night. No I was not done. Even though I could not see it then, I do see it now. But it has changed, I don't feel that adolescent itch to go out and do Something Anything. I would love to tell you that today it is the Quality of Saturday Night Dates rather than Quantity of Dates. But that would not be true. It is usually a healthy dose of Reality that often keeps me home on a Saturday Night. Sometimes I have to work on a Saturday night, sometimes its an early morning comitment on Sunday, sometimes my date ran off with her Ex. ( hey it happens ) but the most important thing to learn about these times is that they are temporary, it will not always be this way. You will have another date, you will go to another show, you will go out for a bite and a movie with a "new friend" But you need to understand this Truth be Told if you dont have a date on Saturday night, it is most likely your own fault. You have to put yourself out there, you are going to have to be willing to take some risk, whether that risk is the risk of being rejected, or the risk of ending up with a blind date from and internet dating site that goes wrong, ohhhhhh soooooo wrong , are facts of life. That is what Dating is all about. Getting to know someone new, doing something that might be out of your comfort zone. But if you are on this site, then you must have realized that we are social animals that need one another. Whichever that other is does not concern me, but we need one another. Sometimes it is just a soft touch, sometimes a soft goodnight kiss, and other times what we thought was just a soft goodnight kiss turns into a night of torrid passion that just wells up in you and comes out in a waves of pleasue and passion. It Happens, but it will not happen unless you make it happen. Or should I say put yourself out there, allow for that possibilty (and last but not least carry a condom) Be safe out there but please please please Go Have Fun. Anyone, Anyone, Bueller |
