In case any of you are not familiar, "The Peter Principle" is a theory developed and published originally in 1969 by Canadian Laurence J. Peter. It may explain very well why many of us feel our "Superiors" are idiots who know NOT what they do. Generally speaking, the theory is this:

"In a Hierarchy, Every Employee Tends to Rise to Their Level of Incompetence."

So, my question...or thought...or random musing asks whether or not "The Peter Principle" or a derivitive, applies to relationships and I'm curious if and to what degree any of us have experienced it.

Imagine that you have met what you believe is"The Perfect Man", he's articulate, a good listener, romantic, all his teeth are intact (and white) and he has a reasonably successfull career...but your first kiss is sloppy, clumbsy and overthought...or he jams his tongue down your throat...or his breath is like two day old garbage. Has this guy reached the end of the line with you??

But wait, he’s so wonderful and kind, maybe he’s just having an off night. You plan a nice romantic dinner at your house…and it goes off without a hitch. You leave and slip into something “more comfortable”. He gets up to greet you and instead of a kiss, you kneel before him, undo his pants and remove his manhood…or what should be hisnhood WTF??
...where’s the rest of it??
...or perhaps worse, he blows his load almost before you get in your mouth. I would submit that you have found his level of incompetence and there ain't no nookie goin his way (or yours!!) this night!!!

Maybe you're a guy who has the "perfect" woman...she has the body, the smile, the mind and the tits you've dreamed of for years. You wine her and dine her and sweep her off her feet, and when you kiss...you feel like never letting go. Then comes the moment that barely seems real...your first time together, and she looks better naked than you ever imagined.

But wait...she likes it in her ear (when you try to put it in her mouth, she turns her head)...and when you finally get to that magical moment of entering her...not only does she "just lay there" ...it feels like you've just stuck your weiner in a pail of luke-warm water...like a bottomless, sideless vacuum...like you better tie that 2 x 4 to your ass after all so you don't fall in.

I know I've gotten to stages in an otherwise hopeful relationship where I go...wow...what a colossal disappointment that was!!!...maybe it’s not “The Peter Principle” at work here…it’s just the universe getting even for being mean to that in third grade…LMAO!!!

Just some food for thought...and I'd love to hear your take on this!!

I've tried to make some bad things work. I don't have it in me to do that anymore. I'm sure I've been out with men and all seems to be going well and then all the sudden for whatever reason they decide I'm stange, weird, they don't like the way I laugh or maybe the meal I cooked was less than spectacular.... who knows! Bottom line is, it either works or it doesn't you can call it the Peter Principle or the Loser Principle, doesn't matter.

BTW, if he has gag me breath, his weinie is tiny and/or won't work properly, if he can't kiss and if he's faking being a smart guy, he can't make me laugh then he's gone.

hmm...interesting.
I think a lot of what we base those "Perfect Mate" comparisons are based on what we see (good looks, body) and how we percieve people (he's funny, she's thoughtful) and that other person doesn't have to work too hard to change our minds, especially when we're SOOO taken with them.
BUT...when you finally decide to lay it down and get bizzy....you just can't ignore the 'realness' of touch. Sometimes it meets your expectations. Sometimes it exceeds them. Sometimes, sadly....it doesn't come close to what we wanted. So are we wanting too much in that "perfect mate" to expect the sex to be as perfect as them (or, our perception of them)? Or, do they percieve that we think so highly of them that they get nervous and act like total fools in bed?

I dunno....maybe we all try to hard to be perfect. Of course we'll fail, if that's the case.

I don't know the answer Meer...there probably isn't one...but I have been frustrated when so many other things are so good about that person.

I've been there. Went out on a couple of dates with an incredible man. We had a lovely time. Then on the third date - he decided he was comfortable with me and let his real side show. He beltched, blew wind, cussed non-stop and was in general about as crude as a person can be. I couldn't understand this considering the first two dates were so lovely. I asked him about it and he said - the first dates are sort of an act. If he makes it to date three he allows the real him to show because he figures he has the woman hooked by then. Not the case with me. I was not hooked, but was very disappointed.

Whisper...

Shit happens sometimes we let our fantasies invade real life.Expectation sometimes can ruin the moment.I find that I have to go into any relationship with an open mind, sometimes it's not them but my attitude. And I also have to remember why I'm there, but their are times when the chemistry just isn't there.Don't sweat the little shit, but run like hell at the big stuff.

LustyTaurus replies on 5/14/2006 10:38 am:
thanks rawhide..there is a lot to be said for having unrealistic expectations...

Expectations, they can ruin everything. Well sometimes they do, I just try and not expect anything and take all things as they come, I think maybe this has to do with us wanting to control things, just a thought.

Peace and Hugs

Wow Lusty! I have really enjoyed the other comments here. Great post. I really can't speak from experience here. But, I do know that when my man kisses me.....the real world slips away and he is Clark Gable, Brad Pitt, and Barry Manilow all wrapped up into one man. Every nerve in my body gets involved and there is no one else in the world I would rather be with. Could I feel that way with someone else? I can't say.....but in my mind I think so. But you have brought up some very good points here....and it would be interesting to find out!

I'm glad you are so very happy with your man Angel...hope you're feeling better from surgury now also...

Wow, had some bad meetings but nothing like those.
And as a lesson learned try to find out more about those I do meet.
I admit, I had more patience in my younger years than now. Just don't have the time to waste now.

LustyTaurus replies on 5/14/2006 6:34 pm:
I hear you on that one playr...I don't have nearly so much patience now...especially with certain traits, which shall remain UNAMED for now..

I try to go into each new relationships with no expectations. That way if it's not so good, I'm not disappointed. If it's great, I'm pleasantly surprised. But, even if it's not so great, I always like to give it a second try, just to make sure

LustyTaurus replies on 5/14/2006 6:37 pm:
Yeah...I hear what you're saying...I always want people to be themselves and not try to be something they aren't...b/c they won't be able to keep up the act for long...

OK,Met this guy, the first one after my divorce, he was cute, funny, and we had alot in common. Went on several dates, and it came down to the moment, took his pants down, and what did I find? A 3inch cock. My tongue was longer then his pecker. I couldn't even get it to touch the back of my throat! But he could eat pussy! Damn could he ever eat, and eat it well! But we could only fuck me on top or missionary, never doggy, cause my ass was too big and his cock too small! But had to break up with him, he had flat feet that looked like flippers, and he sat down to pee!
