Happy Birthday Frank L. Baum, and big thanks for writing the book that has become one of my all time favorite movies, the wonderful 'Wizard of Oz.'
A timeless tale of coming of age and finding oneself told amid lions and tigers and bears, oh my! What is it that makes me tear up every time Dorothy misses that hot air balloon back to Auntie Em? I guess it's just the universal sentiment and underlying knowledge that no matter how far any of us roams, there really is no place like home, with or without the ruby slippers sitting somewhere in a closet. Do a clean sweep the next time you want to feel like your home is your ultimate haven. Get rid of anything that you don't love or use. That flying monkey lamp from your college days? Gone! The dead red poppies in the vase in the corner? Buh bye. It needs to go if you don't love it or use it. Give it to someone who can give your old things a new home. there is really no place like home
it is the long weekend here in Canada!!!! enjoy the holidays my fellow Canuks!!!and remember take the long wayhome but get home safely!!!!

It has been awhile since i shared some humour on here so here i go!!!yeah i know sick humour but i peed my pants laughing when i read this one
Happy Hump day my friends!!!!
A woman was in town on a shopping trip. She began her day finding the most perfect shoes in the first shop and a beautiful dress on sale in the second. In the third everything had just been reduced by 50 percent when her cell phone rang. It was a female doctor notifying her that her husband had just been in a terrible car accident and was in critical condition in the ICU. The woman asked the doctor to inform her husband where she was and that she'd be there as soon as possible. As she hung up she realized she was leaving what was shaping up to be her best day ever in the boutiques. She decided to hit a couple of more shops before heading to the hospital. She ended up shopping the rest of the morning, finishing her trip with a cup of coffee and a slice of yummy chocolate cake, compliments of the last shop. She was jubilant.
Then she remembered her husband. Feeling guilty, she dashed to the hospital. She saw the doctor in the corridor and asked about her husband's condition.
The lady doctor glared at her and shouted, 'You went ahead and finished your shopping trip didn't you!? I hope you're proud of yourself! While you were out for the past four hours enjoying yourself in town, your husband has been languishing in the Intensive Care Unit! It's just as well you went ahead and finished, because it will more than likely be the last shopping trip you ever take! For the rest of his life he will require round the clock care. And taking care of him will now be your career!'
The woman was feeling so guilty she broke down and sobbed.
The lady doctor then chuckled and said, 'I'm just pulling your leg. He's dead. Show me what you bought.’

\There aren't enough words to express what I feel about the sentiments attached to the energies of today, Mother's Day. Sometimes just writing the word 'mother' says it all. I know that some of us are mothers ourselves, and so I honor, appreciate and applaud every single one of you.
Herculean, this job of mothering is, and with really high stakes. And then there are those of us who today will be spending time with our own mothers who sacrifice, sing, smile and support; the ones we don't think we could live without.
And there are those among us whose mothers and grandmothers have passed, but whose memories stay alive in the blue eyes, the compassionate touch, the fabulous chocolate chip cookies. We miss them every day. I know I do.
Happy Mother's Day to every mother who walks this earth. You make all that's wonderful in the world even better. And most of the time you don't even know it.
She warms your heart, holds your hand and cries whenever you do. Like I said, just read the word and feel the love. Mother.

Some crazy calendars call today 'Lover's Day,' which is dedicated to canoodling couples everywhere. However, with all that modern technology has done to occupy our hours, sometimes it's not easy to find time to share some sweet talk, never mind the pillow kind. Unless, of course, it's in an email or a text! Let's get you hooked up a much more fun way (wink, wink!), starting with the starter at the dinner table.
There are special fruits that have long been known for their alluring and aphrodisiac properties. From the beginning of time, certain gardens have produced plenty 'o fruitful delights.
Starting with Eve and that troublemaking Adam's apple and continuing to the modern day, you can count on some juicy escapades when you begin with a sweet and stimulating salad. Apples and apricots, pomegranates, quince and fig all laid out on a beautiful bed of lettuce and served to that special someone will definitely result in some serious seduction.
Try this apple-oriented appetizer tonight and 'orchard' won't be the only word starting with 'o' that applies.
Big "O" what is that? when was the last time you had the big "O"

Today is traditionally known as Bright or Renewal Monday.
In Poland and some parts of the United States, today is referred to as Dyngus Day. Essentially it's Easter Monday or, obviously, the day after Easter Sunday.
Events on this day often include egg rolling competitions and dousing people and their homes with holy or blessed water. This holy water is believed to bless the house, the people who live inside it and even the food that will nourish and nurture the occupants of the space.
Happy Dyngus Day!!!!!

Happy Easter Every ONE
Eight-year-old Steven was mentally retarded and had many health problems. His health appeared to be growing worse ever daily. His teacher was concerned his classmates might stop identifying with him and loving him as they became more aware of his differences.
In April, the teacher asked the class to put together one plastic Easter egg filled with a small object representing new life in the Spring. Thinking Steven might not understand (and not wanting to embarrass him), the teacher had each place their egg on her desk so that she could open each one individually. She needn't have worried.
The first egg contained a tiny wild flower, which truly was an indication of new life.
Next, came a rock and the teacher assumed the rock was Steven's. Her reasoning was that rocks don't symbolize new life and growth. But a little boy shouted from the back of the room that the rock had moss on it, thereby showing new life. The teacher agreed.
A butterfly flew out of the next egg and the little girl that brought it bragged that the butterfly was hers, and how it had came from a cocoon, symbolizing new life. The teacher agreed again.
The fourth egg was empty. The teacher knew this had to be Steven's egg, and she nervously set it aside, hoping he wouldn't notice.
As she began to pick up a different egg, Steven excitedly announced that the empty egg was his! Hesitating, the teacher replied, "But it's empty!"
"That's right," said Steven. "Just like Jesus' tomb was, and that means new life for everyone!" The teacher was amazed at Steven's insight and his love for Jesus.
Later on, at the end of the school year, Steven's condition worsened and he died.
At his funeral, the from his class each placed an empty Easter egg among the flowers. Many of the adults at Steven's funeral were puzzled by the appearance of all the eggs, and the message Steven shared with his classmates was shared again!
An empty tomb some two thousand years earlier gave Steven the hope of a new life! Although the flowers were beautiful, it was the empty eggs that shared the message of hope in Eternal Life through Jesus Christ!
What a wonderful message to share this Easter with those you love.
"Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He is risen!"? Luke 24:5 NIV

This really is interesting.......
'Stewardesses'
Is the longest word typed with only the left hand
And 'lollipop' Is the longest word typed with your right hand. (Bet you tried this out mentally, didn't you?)
No word in the English language rhymes with Month, orange, silver, or purple.
'Dreamt' is the only English word that ends in the letters 'MT. (Are you doubting this?)
Our eyes are always the same size from birth, But our nose and ears
Never stop growing.
The sentence: 'The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog' Uses every letter of the alphabet. (Now, you KNOW you're going to try this out for accuracy, right?
The words 'racecar,' 'kayak' And 'level' Are the same whether they are read Left to right or right to left (palindromes). So is my dog. FredDerf
There are only four words in the English language which end in 'dous': Tremendous, horrendous, stupendous, and hazardous. (You're not doubting this, are you?)
There are two words in the English language that have all five vowels in order: 'abstemious' and 'facetious.' (Yes, admit it, you are going to say, a e I o u)
TYPEWRITER is the longest word That can be made using the letters only on one row of the keyboard. (All you typists are going to test this out) A cat has 32 muscles in each ear.
A goldfish has a memory span of three seconds. (Some days that's about what my memory span is.) A 'jiffy' is an actual unit of time for 1/100th of a second.
A shark is the only fish that can blink with both eyes.
A snail can sleep for three years. (I know some people that could do this too.!)
Almonds are a member of the peach family.
An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain. (I know some people like that also)
Babies are born without kneecaps. They don't appear until the reaches 2 to 6 years of age. February 1865 is the only month in recorded history not to have a full moon.
In the last 4,000 years, no new animals have been domesticated.
If the population of China walked past you, 8 abreast, The line would never end because of the rate of reproduction.
Leonardo Da Vinci invented the scissors
Peanuts are one of the ingredients of dynamite!
Rubber bands last longer when refrigerated.
The average person's left hand does 56% of the typing.
The cruise liner, QE 2
Moves only six inches for each gallon of diesel that it burns.
The microwave was invented after a researcher walked by a radar tube and a chocolate bar melted in his pocket. (Good thing he did that.)
The winter of 1932 was so cold that Niagara Falls
Froze completely solid.
There are more chickens than people in the world.
Winston Churchill
Was born in a ladies' room during a dance.
Women blink nearly twice as much as men.
Now you know more than you did before!!

Experience comes when you tear off more than you can chew.
Passing on. Those who are not 50 as yet would have lots to look forward to and those over 50 but not yet retired could make history!!!!
When will the government learn??? Much cheaper than the bailout.
mn
Best idea yet!
Patriotic Retirement - This Would Work:
This was an article from the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?"
I thought this was the BEST idea.
I think this guy nailed it!
Dear Mr.Prime Minister,
Patriotic retirement:
There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force; (In the USA, but similar plan for Canada would be even easier to adopt)
pay them $1 million a piece severance with stipulations:
1) They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
2) They buy NEW Canadian cars. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.
3) They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage- Housing Crisis fixed.
(If we have 2.9 million unemployed and about the same retired without adequate living pensions, remember that new immigrants that were allowed under humanitarian rules or from wartorn countries as refugees, get three times the money that Canadians get after working and paying taxes for 45 and plus years, yep, it would be much cheaper than bailing out all the car companies and buy cars that are made in Canada, thus the steel industries would benefit too and all our younger Canadian people would work and get good wages....sounds good to me !)
All this and it's still cheaper than the "bailout".

April's birthstone is remarkably simple in composition, yet stunning in its unique ability to reflect and refract light into vivid flashes of brilliant color. The ancient Hindus called the Diamond "Vajra," meaning lightening, both because of the sparks of light thrown off by this gem as well as its invincible strength. The Diamond is harder than any other substance on earth.
Diamonds have been revered throughout history. Used to embellish such items as crowns, swords and emblems as well as jewelry, they've even been part of national holidays. Queen Victoria declared the celebration of her 50th year of reign a "Diamond Jubilee." Diamonds have also been credited for having certain medicinal properties. During the middle ages, these gemstones were thought to heal illness, but only if the ailing person took the Diamond into bed to warm it up first!
Formed deep within the earth where there is intense heat and pressure, Diamonds are simply crystallized carbon. Volcanic activity of centuries ago brought these gemstones to the earth's surface, where they are found either within volcanic rock formations or washed out into rivers. India is thought to be the first river-bed source of Diamond mining, but today these gemstones are found primarily in Australia, the Soviet Union, and Africa.Canada can now be added to the list!!!
No more notable it its uncut state than a plain pebble upon the beach, the true beauty of the Diamond was not revealed until the 16th century, when gemstone cutting and polishing techniques were perfected. Prior to this time, it was considered taboo to modify the original state of a Diamond. Today, the value and appeal of this stone depends largely upon how skillfully it is cut and faceted.
Happy Birthday to all bloggers whoes birthday's are in April...Sorry Teastare no diamonds coming your way in the mail..but something is coming your way!!!
